Fresh & Local – that is what we are made of!

Where can you go to purchase quality local gifts for that someone special in your life? Where can you go to get some of the best, freshest local produce in town? Damascus is where! The Market is located about halfway between Damascus & Boring, just near the 242nd light where it meets Hwy 212.

A customer shared his delight with us last week – he was happy that the vendors selling their wares (be it food, art or more!) were the same folks that produced what lay before him on the tables. We offer a unique experience here at our Market – we are small and committed to quality and locally sourced and/or produced goods. We are active in our Community, partnering with other groups that strive to make our community a great place to live. We have partnered with the Civic Club, Lewis & Clark Montessori Charter School and the Kiwanis, to name a few. And did you know that our Market operates under the auspices of Community Matters – is there a better name for a group that is working to better our community?

Come by this Thursday from 3 to 7 PM and check out the Damascus Fresh & Local Market! Stop by for some groceries, enjoy a bite to eat at one of our food vendors, enjoy some excellent live music and visit with lots of lovely folks.

We have so many talented and hard-working folks at the Market each week. From fresh, local produce to yummy chocolates that will tantalize your taste buds, to locally made herbal products and so much more – we have an average of 20 to 25 vendors each week who would love to see you come by, talk to them about their product and enjoy this fine community event.

Events This Week:

Kid’s Education Booth – Kids can come by and learn about different foods that are being locally grown right now, and talk with Maureen about farms, farmers and what is grown on farms. There will be stickers, puzzles and farm-related games – Hosted by Lewis & Clark Montessori Charter School.

Food Demo Booth – Holly Turner from New Seasons is coming out to share her knowledge of Padron peppers – she says they are absolutely delicious and she is eager to share some recipes with you!

Entertainment – Maggie’s Parlour will once again be joining us and we look forward to hearing their unique, lovely music!

Food Demonstrators Wanted!

One of the events that we offer to our community are weekly Food Demonstrations. Have a love of cooking? Of food prep? Of sharing your passion with others? Of helping others learn how to prepare and eat locally grown, fresh foods? This is the place for you! Know someone that this is a perfect fit? Please share this with them!

Food demonstrations can be a hands-on teaching demo, a taste test of freshly prepared foods, or an educational piece featuring information on healthy eating and living. We would like to showcase locally grown produce. The options for a demo are only limited to what your imagination can do!

We have a small stipend available to purchase fresh, locally grown produce from our vendors to use for the demonstration. We also provide a propane-powered cook stove, a portable handwash station, a cooler, canopy, tables and chairs, and disposable taste test materials. Other supplies may be available upon request.

In return for doing this valuable community service, we would like to offer you the opportunity to advertise your business while you do so – perhaps a banner hanging from the table telling us who you are; perhaps flyers for folks to take home with them? No business to advertise? No problem! C’mon over and do it for the pure joy of it………..

Change is Good!

And now for the Exciting News you have all been waiting for! The Damascus Fresh and Local Market is moving to a new venue! We will be located on the St. Paul of Damascus Lutheran church grounds (24510 SE Highway 212) and are very excited to call this beautiful space our home! The move offers many benefits – some of these are listed below:

1.   This site is on Hwy 212, located about halfway between Damascus and Boring.
2.   The parking lot is paved and there is a lawn as well. Plenty of parking. Plenty of room for market growth.
3.Trees on the west side will shade the market after about 4-5 PM.  A big plus for an afternoon market.
4.   The area is recognized as a community area.  There is a church, a school, and also a little league park with seating, etc.
5.The site is relatively level.  No dust! Relatively quiet!
6. Beautiful trees, bushes and flowers make it a lovely space to come together in community.

Due to this change, we will open the Market on June 19, 2014 and look very much forward to seeing you all there!

Vendors are still being accepted – if interested, please let us know soon!

Pastries….

pastries
The Damascus Fresh & Local Market has an excellent choice of pastries. Petite Patisserrie offers french bread wrapped in newspaper, rolls, and sweets. Ingreedients has excellent cookies, pies, and cakes that goes well with the coffee offered by the Green Corps Fresh Start kids. If you can resist such treats as this (right) then you have undeniable willpower!
